AI Visibility Audit — Are AI Assistants Recommending You?

Shoppers increasingly ask ChatGPT what to buy instead of searching for it. This free AI visibility audit checks whether AI shopping agents can reach your Shopify store at all, then asks those assistants what to buy in your category and records where you rank — and which competitor took the slot instead.

It goes live at audit.forgecro.com. Until it does, you can still get the same report — run by hand, against your actual store.

How the AI visibility audit works

Most tools that claim to check AI visibility read your robots.txt and tell you what it claims. That tells you nothing about what your CDN actually does when an agent knocks.

This one knocks. It issues a real HTTP request using each agent’s published user-agent string — 13 of them, covering ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Google AI Mode, Perplexity, Claude, Amazon and Apple — and records exactly what came back. Then it runs buyer-intent queries against those assistants with live web search on, and extracts the ordered list of brands each one recommended.

That combination surfaces the failure nobody catches from a checklist: the store whose robots.txt says yes while its edge says no. It is one of the most common silent failures we see, and it is invisible to every robots.txt-based checker.

What the report tells you

  • Per-platform reachability — every agent, its live HTTP status, and whether it was blocked by your policy or by your CDN. Those are different problems with different fixes.
  • Presence rate — how often you appear when an assistant is asked what to buy in your category.
  • Average rank and share of voice — where you land in the list, and how much of the conversation you own.
  • The competitors taking your slot — named, with how often each one was recommended.
  • A prioritised fix list — ordered by severity, then by how much each fix recovers.

Every finding states what was observed, not just whether it passed. “robots.txt permits OAI-SearchBot, but the server answered HTTP 202 with a bot challenge.” That’s a ticket, not a talking point.

Frequently asked questions

What is an AI visibility audit?

It measures two things: whether AI shopping agents can technically reach and read your store, and whether those assistants actually recommend you when a shopper asks what to buy. Traditional SEO tools measure neither.

How do I know if my store is visible in ChatGPT?

Run the audit above. It asks ChatGPT the questions your customers ask — “best [your category] to buy right now” — and records whether you appear, where you rank, and who got recommended instead. It also checks whether ChatGPT’s crawler can reach you at all, which is where a surprising number of stores fail.

How long does it take?

About 60 to 90 seconds. Longer than a normal scan, because it is genuinely querying ChatGPT and Google AI and waiting for their answers.

Do I need to install anything?

No. No app, no script, no theme change, no admin access. You give us a URL and we read what is already public.

Ready to fix what the audit found?

The audit tells you what’s broken. Fixing it is the part we’re actually paid for — product data and structured markup, agentic storefront setup, and the WAF rules that decide whether an agent ever sees you.
