What actually drives the cost
Migration quotes vary enormously because the work varies enormously. Six things move the number more than anything else:
- What you’re coming from. Shopify to Plus keeps your data model, so it is largely a re-platform. Magento or a custom build is closer to a rewrite.
- Catalogue size. Variant mapping, metafields and the QA surface all scale with SKU count.
- Design. Carrying the current theme over, refreshing it, or rebuilding are three very different budgets.
- Your app estate. Every app is a decision: port it, replace it, or drop it because Plus does it natively.
- Integrations. ERP, PIM, 3PL and subscription systems are usually the single largest line after the base build.
- Custom requirements. B2B, multi-store, headless and checkout extensibility each add real engineering.

Shopify Plus platform fees are billed by Shopify and are quoted separately — never folded into build cost. It is Shopify’s revenue, not ours, and merchants who see them merged reasonably assume a markup.
Why it’s a range, not a number
Any figure presented as exact before discovery is a figure someone has to walk back later. The calculator returns a band, a delivery window, and the assumptions the estimate rests on — because the assumptions are what decide whether a quote survives contact with the project.

How long does a migration take?
The calculator returns a delivery window alongside the cost. A straightforward Shopify to Plus move is typically a matter of weeks; a Magento migration with ERP and headless work runs considerably longer. Accelerating a plan costs money, because it costs parallelism.
Will I lose my search rankings?
Not if the cutover is handled properly. Redirect mapping and an SEO-safe cutover with a rollback plan are included in every estimate rather than sold as an extra — it is the part most likely to cost you money if it is skipped.
Is the estimate binding?
