Shopify SEO Audit — What’s Holding Back Your Rankings

A free Shopify SEO audit that crawls a spread of your real pages, measures Core Web Vitals from actual Chrome user data, and checks every technical signal search engines use. You get the specific template that’s broken, not a list of things SEO is.

It goes live at seo-audit.forgecro.com. Until it does, you can still get the same report — run by hand, against your actual store.

Why a single-page check finds nothing

Most free SEO tools grade your homepage. The problems that actually cost ecommerce traffic do not live on the homepage — they live in templates, and they only become visible when you compare pages against each other.

This audit samples up to 12 pages across page types — home, collections, products, blog, content pages — then reconciles them against your sitemap. That is what surfaces duplicate titles across paginated collections, canonicals pointing at the wrong variant, a stray noindex on a page that should rank, sitemap entries that 404, and soft 404s returning HTTP 200.

Core Web Vitals from real users, not a lab

Speed scores come from the PageSpeed Insights API, which returns two very different things. Field data (CrUX) is what real Chrome users experienced over the last 28 days — that is what Google ranks on. Lab data is a simulation on Google’s hardware: useful for diagnosis, but not the ranking signal.

The report prefers field data and only falls back to lab when a site has too little traffic to have a CrUX record — and it says which was used. “You pass in the lab” and “you pass for real users” are not the same claim, and a report that blurs them is worse than no report.

What the report tells you

  • A score out of 100 across five pillars, with every check and the evidence behind it.
  • Indexability and crawl health — robots, HTTPS enforcement, sitemap accuracy, canonicals, broken internal links.
  • On-page — title and description lengths, H1 count, heading structure, duplication across pages.
  • Structured data — Product, Review, Breadcrumb and Organization markup, and where it’s missing.
  • Page-by-page detail so you fix templates rather than pages.

Every finding states what was observed. “0 of 5 products expose aggregateRating.” “144 of 398 images across the crawl are missing alt text.” That’s a ticket, not a talking point.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the SEO audit take?

About 45 seconds, or up to a minute when Core Web Vitals data is being fetched from Google.

How many pages does it crawl?

Up to 12, chosen across page types rather than at random, then reconciled against your sitemap. It is a sample designed to find patterns — it will not enumerate every duplicate title on a 50,000-URL catalogue.

Will it slow my store down?

No. Requests are deliberately paced so the crawl never trips your store’s rate limiting. If we do get throttled, the report says so rather than reporting your site as broken.

Do I need to install anything?

No. No app, no script, no theme change, no admin access. We crawl what is already public — the same pages Google sees.

Ready to fix what the audit found?

The audit tells you what’s broken. Fixing it is the part we’re actually paid for — technical SEO, Core Web Vitals, structured data and content that ranks.
